I know this post is more than year old. I just want to remind everyone that Haiti did not implement a building code which is why so many buildings were substandard and were so vulnerable to the quake. The Philippines especially Manila has a building code, a minimum set of standards that is implemented by law. So we cant compare Manila to Haiti. Metro Manila is in much better shape to survive a magnitude 7 earthquake than Haiti. The ones who will be badly affected will be those on or near the fault line if the fault line separates. Then houses not built according to code (shanties, etc really its the poor who will suffer the most) will be heavily damaged.

but this does not address the question though. eastwood is not standing under the west valley fault line in this photo. what the person really wants to ask is If Eastwood is far enough from the West Valley fault as to avoid major damage to the condominiums where they live. I live in Olympic Heights, which is the condomonium Eastwood nearest to the Marikina River.
goat, i don’t know. i think nobody really knows for sure. a self-proclaimed expert may come out and make pronouncements and may even become technical about everything. well, there’s no way of really knowing for sure. ika nga, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. when the BIG ONE happens, then we’ll all know. but i have this bit of data to benchmark the west valley fault with the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit haiti on jan. 12, 2010. the epicenter of the haiti quake was 10 kilometers from port-au-prince. when the west valley fault moves, its epicenter will be WITHIN metro manila.
now google for the kind of damage 7 kilometers from the quake’s epicenter in haiti did. we can only imagine the havoc if the epicenter of a 7.2 magnitude earthquake is within metro manila.
paraphrasing your question, what can happen to the condos in eastwood even though they are not directly atop the faultline? is it 7 kilometers from the faultline? no, it’s less than a kilometer.
